Degema Local Government Chairman, Hon. Dr. Agiriye Monima Harry, has pledged to prioritize development across all communities within the LGA, with a particular focus on those previously neglected.
He made this commitment on February 12th, when HRH King Emmanuel Stephen, the Amanyanabo of Ifoko, led the Ifoko Council of Chiefs on a Courtesy Visit.
Harry emphasized the importance of unity within the Kalabari ethnic nationality for regional development. “It is good that Kalabaris remain as one,” he stated, urging against divisive political tactics. “We should also carry the touch of the riverine. Let nobody use political intrigues to divide us. They tried before, but let us look at the reality we face and not be deceived.”
He highlighted recent progress and pledged continued focus on underserved communities. “As we speak, we have never had it so good, and we have never had anyone that considers us this much. And I also want to pledge to you that on my watch, I will also concentrate on what I perceive as neglected communities.”
Earlier, King Emmanuel Stephen explained the delegation’s visit, noting their ancestral ties to Elem Ifoko in Degema LGA despite currently residing in Ifoko, Asari Toru LGA. “We have visited the Chairman to assure him of our unalloyed support, knowing the important role government plays in the development of any community,” the traditional ruler said.
This visit underscores the interconnectedness of Kalabari communities and their shared interest in regional progress. Harry’s commitment to inclusive development promises to address historical disparities and strengthen the bond between the local government and its constituent communities.
